Chapter: 04. Photosynthesis

Nutrition: The process by which living beings obtain or synthesize food for growth, repair, and reproduction.
Autotrophic nutrition: A process of nutrition in which food is taken in the form of inorganic substances and organic compounds are synthesised.
Heterotrophic nutrition: A process of obtaining readymade food from plants, animals, or both.
Chlorophyll: A green-coloured photosynthetic pigment that traps light or solar energy.
Chloroplast: A cell organelle for photosynthesis present in the cells of green parts of plants.
Stomata: Minute pores in the epidermis of leaves that act as a passage for the exchange of gases.
Photolysis of water: The splitting of water into H⁺ and OH⁻ ions due to light energy in the form of photons.
Photosynthesis: The process of synthesising glucose from carbon dioxide and water in the presence of sunlight and chlorophyll.
Translocation: The transport of water-soluble glucose to different parts of the plant through the phloem.
Autotrophs: Living organisms, such as green plants, that can make their own food by the process of photosynthesis.
