Section E: Short Answer Questions

Herod was a puppet ruler appointed by the Romans after they conquered Palestine. Under his rule, the Jews suffered grave injustice and oppression, which made them resent their loss of freedom.
The two fundamental principles of Jesus’s code of conduct are:
Unconditional love for God
True love for one’s neighbour
Jewish religious leaders followed the scriptures literally, rather than in spirit. They felt threatened by Jesus’s growing popularity, his strength of character, compassion, and his interpretation of Jewish laws which clashed with their ideas.
On the third day after his death, his disciples found his sealed tomb empty. His followers believed that Jesus had been resurrected, and this deep conviction led to the emergence of the Christian community.
The Bishop of St Peter’s Basilica became the Pope. He was the spiritual head of Christians all over the world and was acknowledged as the representative of Christ on earth.

Section F: Image-Based Observation Question

Section G: Long Answer Questions

The Rise of Christianity under Emperor Constantine:
In 313 CE, Emperor Constantine won a major battle against his rival, Maxentius. He attributed this victory to the divine inspiration of Jesus.
He made Christianity a legal religion, ending almost 300 years of oppression and persecution of Christians in the Roman empire.
Constantine declared himself a Christian after defeating all his rivals.
He shifted the capital of the empire from Rome to Constantinople (the site of the ancient city of Byzantium), which endured as the Christian capital for 1,000 years.
Values and Application (SDG Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities):
Jesus taught that we should mould ourselves in the image of a compassionate, loving, and forgiving God.
He instructed his followers to love their neighbours as themselves, help the needy, and extend love and forgiveness to the poor, sinners, and even their enemies.
These values promote the reduction of inequalities by encouraging people to treat everyone—regardless of their social standing, wealth, or past actions—with dignity, respect, and compassion. Applying these teachings helps eliminate societal divisions, support the marginalized, and foster a peaceful, cooperative society.
