Ice: Water in its solid state, which has a fixed shape and size.
Water (liquid): The most familiar form of water, which is wet, fluid, and takes the shape of its container without a fixed shape or size.
Water Vapour: Water in its gaseous state, which does not have a fixed shape or size and fills all available space.
Melting: The process in which a solid changes into a liquid on heating.
Evaporation: The process in which a liquid changes into vapours (gaseous state) on heating.
Condensation: The process in which a gas changes into a liquid on cooling.
Solidification: The process in which a liquid changes into a solid.
Freezing: The process in which water changes into ice; it is the reverse of melting.
Sublimation: The conversion of a solid to a gas without passing through the liquid phase.
Deposition: The direct solidification of vapor into a solid.
Solution: A mixture in which a solute dissolves in a solvent at a particular temperature.
Solute: The substance that dissolves in a solvent.
Solvent: The substance in which the solute dissolves.
Universal solvent: A substance (like water) that dissolves most other substances.
Soluble substances: Substances that dissolve in a solvent to form a solution.
Insoluble substances: Substances that do not dissolve in a solvent to form a solution.
Sinking: Occurs when an object displaces less water than its own weight, causing it to go to the bottom of the water.
Floating: Occurs when an object displaces more water than its own weight, causing it to stay on the top of the water.
