Chapter: 10. Sun As A Natural Resource

Solar energy: The energy we get from the Sun.
Solar panel: A device that comprises solar cells to convert sunlight into electricity.
Season: When the weather conditions remain more or less the same for a long period of time.
Renewable energy: The energy that we get from renewable sources and that will last for a long time.
Non-renewable energy: The energy that we get from non-renewable sources and that will not last for a long time.
Sun: A huge, yellow, bright ball of fire in the centre of the solar system, made up of burning gases.
Photosynthesis: The process by which plants use the Sun’s energy to manufacture food.
Solar cooker: A device that uses the energy from sunlight directly to heat or cook food.
Solar geyser: A device used to heat water using solar energy.
Solar cells: Devices that convert light energy directly into electrical energy.
Weather: The different conditions in our surroundings, such as hot, cold, cloudy, and rainy, which keep changing on a day-to-day basis.
Sunrise: The time of day that brings the day.
Sunset: The time of day that brings the night.
Renewable sources: Sources of energy that will not run out and will continue to provide us with energy for a long time.
Non-renewable sources: Sources of energy which are limited in amount and will run out soon, with their formation taking millions of years.
LED (Light-emitting diode): A type of bulb that uses less energy.
Fluorescent bulbs: A type of bulb that uses less energy.
Carpooling: Sharing car journeys so that more than one person can travel in a car, saving energy, and reducing traffic jams and air pollution.
