Character Profiles

1. The Shoemaker
Traits:
Poor: He struggles financially and has very little money.
Honest: He always does good, fair work and has a clear conscience.
Hardworking: He cuts leather every evening and prepares for the next day’s work.
Patient: He continues his routine even when times are tough.
Astonished/Wondering: He is greatly surprised and amazed by the perfectly made shoes.
Grateful: He feels deeply thankful for the mysterious help he receives.
Kind/Generous: He decides to help the elves in return for their assistance.
Observant: He notices the elves’ worn clothes.
Relationships:
With his Wife: A loving and supportive relationship. They work together, share their worries and joys, and make decisions together.
With the Elves: Initially, an unknown benefactor (helpers) who magically aid his business. Later, a relationship of mutual kindness and gratitude.
With Customers: He sells high-quality shoes to them, leading to his prosperity.
2. The Shoemaker’s Wife
Traits:
Supportive: She comforts her husband and helps him through difficult times (“Don’t worry, we will work something out”).
Practical/Resourceful: She suggests ideas like staying up to watch and leaving milk and cookies.
Kind/Compassionate: She is the first to notice the elves’ torn clothes and suggests making them new outfits.
Observant: She notices the elves’ appearance and condition.
Grateful: She shares her husband’s appreciation for the elves’ help.
Hardworking: She helps sew the clothes for the elves.
Relationships:
With her Husband: A loving and supportive relationship. They are partners in life and business, facing challenges and successes together.
With the Elves: Similar to her husband, initially an unknown helper, then a relationship of shared kindness and gratitude, initiated by her compassionate suggestion.
3. The Elves (Two)
Traits:
Magical/Mysterious: They appear and disappear without a trace and work at incredible speed.
Hardworking/Diligent: They work tirelessly and perfectly through the night.
Skilled: Their shoemaking is flawless, a “masterpiece.”
Anonymous Helpers: They provide help without revealing themselves or expecting anything in return.
Poor/Needy: They wear old, torn clothes, indicating their own humble circumstances.
Joyful/Delighted: They are overjoyed and dance happily when they receive their gifts.
Appreciative: They gratefully accept the clothes and shoes made for them.
Relationships:
With the Shoemaker and his Wife: They act as secret benefactors, magically assisting the couple’s business. Later, they become grateful recipients of the couple’s kindness, leading to their final departure.
With Each Other: They work as a team, perfectly synchronized in their magical craft.
