Festivals: Special days or periods of celebration.
Religious festival: A festival connected to a particular religion.
Harvest festival: A festival celebrated at the time of harvesting crops.
National festival: A festival celebrated by all people of a country.
Celebrate: To observe a happy occasion with festivities.
Constitution: A set of rules that guide a country or a state.
Unfurls: To spread out from a rolled or folded state.
Effigies: Models, often of people or figures, used in celebrations.
Navaratri: Nine days of fasting that precede Dussehra.
Ramzaan/Ramadaan: A 30-day fast observed by Muslims.
Seviyan: A special sweet dish, often vermicelli pudding, cooked during Eid.
Gurudwaras: Sikh places of worship.
Gurbani: Prayer songs sung from the Guru Granth Sahib.
Langar: A community kitchen in Gurudwaras where free food is served to all.
Plum cake: A special fruit cake made during Christmas.
Advent: A coming or arrival.
Rangoli: Floral designs, often made on the ground with colored powders or flowers.
Pichkaris: Devices used to squirt colored water during Holi.
Jaggery: A type of unrefined sugar, often used in Indian sweets.
