Chapter: 13. The National Symbols

National Symbol: Represents a nation.
Tiranga: Another name for the Indian National Flag, meaning “tricolour.”
Dharma Chakra: The navy blue wheel with 24 spokes at the center of the Indian flag, representing constant progress and growth.
Saffron: The color at the top of the Indian flag, standing for courage and sacrifice.
White: The color in the middle of the Indian flag, representing honesty, purity, and peace.
Green: The color at the bottom of the Indian flag, symbolizing growth and prosperity.
National Emblem: An official seal of a country found on coins, currency notes, and government papers.
Sarnath Lion Capital: The ancient structure built by Emperor Ashoka from which India’s National Emblem is taken.
Ashoka: The emperor who built the Sarnath Lion Capital.
Lions (National Emblem): Represent power, courage, pride, and confidence.
Abacus: The base of the National Emblem, featuring sculptures of animals and wheels.
Satyamev Jayate: The motto inscribed below the National Emblem, meaning ‘Truth alone wins’.
Jana Gana Mana: India’s national anthem, written by Rabindranath Tagore.
Rabindranath Tagore: The writer of India’s national anthem, Jana Gana Mana.
Vande Mataram: India’s national song, written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.
Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay: The writer of India’s national song, Vande Mataram.
Tiger: The national animal of India.
Banyan: The national tree of India.
Peacock: The national bird of India.
Mango: The national fruit of India.
Lotus: The national flower of India.
River Ganga: The national river of India.
