The life cycle is the series of developmental stages an organism undergoes from an egg until it becomes an adult.
Three common insects are butterflies, houseflies, and ants. (Other correct answers include: mosquitoes, grasshoppers, honeybees, cockroaches, beetles, dragonflies).
Houseflies are harmful because they pick up germs from dirty places like garbage and then transfer them onto our food, making it unhealthy and potentially causing illness.
Sericulture is the cultivation of silkworms specifically for the purpose of producing silk.

Section E: Diagram-Based Questions (5 Marks)

Egg
Larva (Caterpillar)
Pupa (Chrysalis)
Adult Butterfly
The butterfly mostly eats and grows during its larva stage (caterpillar).

Section F: Long Answer Questions (10 Marks)

To protect our homes and ourselves from harmful insects, there are several practical ways. First, we should fix nets on doors and windows to prevent flying insects from entering the house. Second, it is important to always keep food items covered to avoid contamination. Third, maintaining a clean environment and disposing of garbage in covered dustbins regularly helps deter pests. Lastly, we must ensure that water does not collect in or around the house, as stagnant water serves as a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
Honeybees are called social insects because they live together in highly organized, large groups called colonies, where they cooperate for the common good. Within the colony, different bees have specific tasks: the queen bee lays eggs, drones mate with the queen, and worker bees collect nectar and pollen, build honeycombs, and make honey. This division of labor and teamwork allows the colony to function efficiently, produce honey, and survive, demonstrating their social nature.
