Chapter: 06. Food We Get From Plants

Shrubs are smaller than trees and tend to grow closer to the ground, often appearing bushy.
A tree’s stem, called a trunk, is typically brown, hard, thick, woody, and strong.
Herbs usually have thin, green, and soft stems.
Tomato is a fruit that is commonly eaten as a vegetable.
Climbers need external support to grow because they have weak stems and cannot stand or grow straight on their own.
Besides food, we get medicines, wood, and paper from plants.
Cloves are used to treat toothache.
We get cocoa from the seeds of the cacao tree, and its main use is in making chocolate.
Spices enhance food by making it tastier, and by adding color and aroma.
Watermelon and pumpkin are two examples of creepers.
Oil obtained from plants is used for cooking food and for making soaps.
Using both sides of paper and recycling helps to save trees by reducing the need to cut down more trees for paper production.
Fennel seeds are good for the digestive system.
For radish, the root is eaten, and for spinach, the leaves are eaten as vegetables.
Wheat and rice are two commonly consumed cereals.
Neem is an excellent cure for skin infections as it helps in killing germs.
Coffee is made from the seeds of the coffee plant.
Trees typically live for many years, whereas most herbs live for only a few months.
Food grains are composed of edible seeds of certain plants, categorized as cereals and pulses.
Tulsi is known as the “queen of herbs.”
Plants need strong and thick roots to grow very deep into the soil, providing stability and absorbing water and nutrients.
Amla and Aloe vera are two other medicinal plants mentioned in the chapter.
