Chapter: 13. The National Symbols

Individuals should show respect by standing at attention whenever they hear or sing the national anthem.
A national symbol represents the identity and values of a nation.
The four lions in the National Emblem symbolize power, courage, pride, and confidence.
The national song of India is Vande Mataram, written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay.
The 24 spokes in the Dharma Chakra represent the twenty-four hours in a day, symbolizing continuous progress throughout time.
India’s national anthem, Jana Gana Mana, was composed by Rabindranath Tagore.
River Ganga is designated as India’s national river.
Every day, the national flag is carefully brought down at sunset, neatly folded, and stored safely.
The three primary national symbols of India are the National Flag, the National Anthem, and the National Emblem.
Our responsibility is to make an effort to keep the national river Ganga clean.
The national anthem Jana Gana Mana creates strong feelings of pride and unity in every Indian.
The Indian National Flag is known as Tiranga because it consists of three horizontal bands of distinct colors: saffron, white, and green.
The national anthem is played on important national days, functions, and events, both national and international.
The National Emblem of India can be commonly seen on coins, currency notes, and government papers and letters.
The Dharma Chakra represents constant progress and growth.
The base of the national emblem is an abacus with sculptures of an elephant, a horse, a bull, and a lion, which are separated by wheels.
Four other national symbols of India are the Tiger (national animal), Banyan (national tree), Peacock (national bird), and Mango (national fruit).
The motto “Satyamev Jayate” means “Truth alone wins.”
