Chapter: 09. Water As A Resource

Water: An important resource on Earth that we cannot live without.
Liquid: One of the three forms in which water exists.
Solid: One of the three forms in which water exists, such as ice.
Gas: One of the three forms in which water exists, such as water vapour.
Universal Solvent: A property of water, meaning it can dissolve many substances.
Evaporation: The process in which a liquid changes into vapour (gas) upon heating.
Condensation: The process in which a gas changes into a liquid upon cooling.
Water cycle: The continuous cycle by which water circulates through the processes of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation.
Precipitation: The falling of any form of water (rain, snow, etc.) onto the Earth.
Insoluble impurities: Impurities that are not dissolved in water and can be seen easily.
Soluble impurities: Impurities that are dissolved in water and cannot be seen easily.
Germs: Very tiny, harmful living organisms that cannot be seen but can cause diseases.
Potable water: Water that is fit for drinking.
Waterborne diseases: Diseases like cholera, typhoid, and dysentery that are caused by harmful living organisms in water.
Waterworks: A place where water is purified and made drinkable before being supplied to homes.
Chlorination: The process of purifying drinking water with the help of chlorine tablets.
Rainwater harvesting: The collection and storage of rainwater for future use.
