Mahatma Gandhi, born Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, became known as the ‘Father of the Nation’ for his leadership in India’s freedom struggle. His journey began after observing racial discrimination in South Africa, which deeply affected him. Upon returning to India, he led the national movement against British rule based on his core principle of non-violence (Ahimsa). He urged people to resist peacefully and also encouraged boycotting British-made goods to promote self-reliance. His birthday, October 2nd, is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti, honoring his immense contributions.
Sarojini Naidu possessed unique talents from a young age, demonstrating genius by writing a play at 13 and joining Madras University at just 12, alongside mastering many languages. She played a significant political role in India’s freedom struggle, working closely with Mahatma Gandhi and representing the country on numerous occasions in England. Her dedication led her to be imprisoned for the cause of independence. After India gained freedom in 1947, she achieved another milestone by becoming the first woman Governor of Uttar Pradesh, earning the title ‘Nightingale of India’ for her beautiful poetry.
