The Earth’s atmosphere is a crucial layer of air that surrounds our planet like a thick blanket. It is composed of vital gases such as oxygen, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen. Oxygen, in particular, is essential for both plants and animals to breathe and survive. Beyond providing breathable air, the atmosphere acts as a protective shield. It effectively stops the Sun’s harmful rays, which could otherwise damage living organisms, from reaching the Earth’s surface, thus safeguarding life.

The Earth is called unique because it is the only planet in our solar system known to have life. This is possible due to specific conditions present on our planet. The Earth’s surface is composed of one-fourth land and three-fourths water. Most importantly, it possesses air, water, and just the right temperature, all of which are essential for sustaining living organisms. These combined factors create an environment where plants, animals, and humans can thrive.

In the olden days, many people believed the Earth was flat, but some thought it was round. Ferdinand Magellan was the first person to scientifically prove its spherical shape. He embarked on a journey, sailing consistently towards the west from a specific starting point. After an incredible three years of continuous sailing, he and his crew successfully reached the exact same place from where they had initially started their voyage. This remarkable circumnavigation of the globe definitively demonstrated that the Earth is indeed round, not flat.

The Earth is our home and provides us with everything necessary for our existence, so it is our responsibility to protect it. There are several key ways we can care for our planet. We should always avoid littering and be mindful not to waste precious resources like water, food, and electricity. It is also crucial to prevent pollution of the land, air, and water. Lastly, we must actively stop cutting down trees and instead commit to planting more, as they are vital for the health of our environment.
