Section D: Explanation of Terms

Dawn: Dawn is the time just before sunrise when the sky starts to get light.
Leap Year: A leap year is a year that has 366 days instead of the usual 365. This extra day is added to February and happens every four years.

Section E: Short Answer Questions

Before modern clocks, people used sundials, water clocks, and hourglasses to tell time.
The main function of a calendar is to show us the months, weeks, and days in a year.
A timeline is helpful because it shows events in the order they occurred, helping us to know their dates and the time between them.

Section F: Diagram-Based Questions

There are 31 days in July 2023.
July 4th falls on a Tuesday.
July 15th is a Saturday.

Section G: Long Answer Questions

On a clock, the minute hand is the long hand, and it tells us the minutes past the hour. The hour hand is the short hand, and it tells us what hour it is. They work together by moving around the clock face; when the minute hand completes a full circle, the hour hand moves to the next hour mark, showing the progression of time.
Knowing how to tell time is very important for our daily activities and social life because it helps us stay organized. For example, it tells us when to wake up for school, when our classes start and end, and when to meet friends for playtime. Without knowing the time, we might miss important events, be late for appointments, or struggle to plan our day efficiently.

Section H: Identifying and Differentiate Concepts

A “standard year” has 365 days, while a “leap year” has 366 days. The extra day in a leap year is added to February (making it 29 days) and occurs once every four years to keep our calendar in sync with the Earth’s orbit around the Sun.

Section I: Everyday Use

(Answers will vary, examples below)
One activity is knowing when to leave for school in the morning so I’m not late.
Another activity is knowing when my favorite TV show starts in the evening.
