Preparing Files for Production
Production File Overview
Last edited 539 days ago by Adam Doll
Purpose
To set clear expectations for design files being prepared for production.
The primary reasons for this
To minimize design time spent processing files that are best left to production to ensure things aren’t being done twice.
To provide a clean, neutral file format in either full scale or 1:10, that can be utilized by vinyl cutters or CNC routers with minimal processing.
Ensure final products are up to client specs.
General drawing requirements
Avoid feathered drop shadows if possible.
Masks to be removed (may not be avoidable when Ai files are opened in Flexi).
Units for measurements to be in inches. If client requires metric units, they should be secondary to inches.
Master stamp to be applied to drawings when they are ready for production.
Be sure to convert all fonts to outlines.
If possible, create files at final output size (100% scale).
Spec all critical colours as appropriate Pantone spot colours.
