Rebates will cover 50% of the cost of the installation up to a maximum of $1,400.
If system cost is $2,000, rebate will be $1,000
If system costs $5,000, rebate will be $1,400
Homeowners also have the option of an interest-free loan of the same value as the rebate.
If rebate is $1,400, interest-free loan will be $1,400
If rebate is $1,200, interest-free loan will be $1,200
The rental provider will need to submit a satisfactory credit check if they want to opt-in for an interest free loan
The renter can contribute to the interest-free loan payments of $29.17/month (Renter can contribute up to 50%, which is equivalent to $14.58/month)

Eligibility criteria

As a Victorian rental provider, you are eligible to receive a rebate for your rental property if you meet the following criteria:
your renters have a combined household taxable income of less than $210,000 per year
you have not received more than two rebates for a rental property during the current financial year
the property is valued at under $3 million
the property address has not previously received a or a under the Solar Homes Program
a signed Solar Homes Program Agreement between you (the Rental Provider) and Renter(s) is provided
the property has not had a solar panel (PV) system installed after 1 November 2009*
*Early adopters who installed their system prior to 1 November 2009 are eligible to replace or expand their existing system. However, those receiving the Premium Feed-in Tariff should consider whether they will be better off if they replace their existing system.

How to apply

To apply for the rebate, the Rental Provider must provide certain documents to prove they are eligible:
To prove they own the property & the property value is under $3M, they need to provide a Rates Notice & it must show the Capital Improved Value (CIV) of the property.
A copy of the relevant completed and signed Rental provider-Renter Agreement
You will be asked to upload this document as part of your eligibility application. You must ensure that the eligibility criteria is ticked (see Part A of the Solar Homes Program Agreement), and that Annexure B (the Residential Tenancy Agreement) is combined with the Rental provider-Renter Agreement into one document for upload.
Credit report only if they wish to opt-in for an interest-free loan.
Rental providers will need to submit a satisfactory credit report as part of the eligibility application process if they wish to opt-in for an interest-free loan.
Lastly, they must provide details from 2 forms of ID from the following options:
Driver’s licence
Medicare card
Australian passport
Australian birth certificate
Australian citizenship certificate
Foreign passport. This should be a foreign passport with a valid Australian Visa.
