This page will show you how to know whether a switchboard is completely fine, needs a minor upgrade (or extra enclosure) or needs a Major Upgrade.

Fusebox vs Switchboard

This is a Fusebox:

They use old ceramic switches and have been around for ages, so most customers today will still know switchboards under their old names, Fuseboxes.
This, however, is what a new switchboard looks like:

You can see that this one has the newer safety switches instead of the old fuses. Not only are they much safer, but they’re also much neater.

Minor or Major Upgrade: Which one?

If the customer has the old Fusebox, they will unfortunately need a Major upgrade. Not only is it required under regulation, but it is also much safer for them in the long run. Most electricians will charge upwards of $1,500 to do this. Depending on the installer, we can get it for as low as $900.
If, like in the second photo, the customer does have a switchboard but it is full, they will need a Minor Upgrade. This is where the installer will either add a separate enclosure or install a bigger switchboard for the customer.
Below is an example of a Switchboard that would not need an upgrade since it has empty slots available for the solar switch.
