About Payroll

SequoiaOne is our provider for US-based employees.
You get paid on 15th and last day of the month. If those dates fall on a weekend or a holiday, you’ll get paid the Friday prior to the 15th.
If you just joined Coda, be aware that depending on your start date and how close to pay day it is, you may get a paper check instead of direct deposit or, it may take another pay cycle to get paid. The pre-note process can take up to 10 days depending on your bank. As soon as the bank authorizes the account and as long as the authorization happens prior to the pay period close, you will start to receive your pay via direct deposit. Please reach out to the People Team if you have any questions.
If you need to get pay stubs or adjust your withholdings due to a move to a different state, please visit
Company Code: Once you log in, go to “HR & Pay” and follow the links provided
For Direct Deposit, your bank account will need to be verify and Sequoia will do so by depositing a small amount (under $1) in your account.

Important re: moves to a different state

If you move to a different state, it’s key that you update your residence address in Sequoia and adjust your state withholdings as soon as you begin working from that new location.
If you fail to do this, it could result on tax amendment fees that you’ll be responsible for.

Adding a new direct deposit account

To change from one bank account to another:
If you are switching from one account to another, you will want to first remove the existing account by clicking Payroll > Direct Deposit > Select the account you wish to remove > Remove. You will need to confirm this on the next screen as well.
Once the old account has been removed, you can then click Add Account to set up the new account. If you have only one account, set the Deposit Method to Remainder and leave the amount and maximum sections blank so your full check will be deposited into the account.
To add an additional account:
If you would like your check divided between multiple accounts, you will want to have one set up with a Deposit Method of Remainder while the other has either a percentage or fixed dollar amount set up in the system.
Bank Approval Process:
Newly added and edited bank accounts go through a verification process which takes up to 1 pay cycle. Payroll typically begins processing a week prior to the pay date so if your direct deposit is updated too close to this, a live check will be issued and delivered to your home via Fed Ex on pay day.
The new account will show a “Pending” status in the WorkLife portal until the next payroll is processed after verification is complete. The status will then switch over to “Active”.

Downloading Pay Stub

Employees can access their electronic payroll vouchers in the WorkLife portal. Once logged in follow these steps:
Go to “Payroll”
“Paycheck History”
Click the appropriate year on the top of the screen
Click “View Pay Stub” for the check you are wanting to view
Click “View Check”
Click the PDF file

Tax Withholdings

Coda is unable to tell you what tax withholdings to elect as everyone has a unique tax situation they’re working with (i.e filing status, income, itemizations, deductions, credits etc). We recommend you utilize the to calculate how many allowances to claim. Some general knowledge sharing but recommend everyone consults a tax advisor if you have any Qs —
The more allowances you claim, the less money will be withheld from your paycheck, and the more you will receive in your take-home pay. However, you might be withholding too little so come tax season you’ll owe money to the government.
If you claim less allowances, the more money will be withheld from your paycheck, and you’ll receive less in your take-home pay. However, this means you may receive a larger refund during tax season which means you’ve essentially lent Uncle Sam (the government) an interest-free loan during the year.
Throughout the year, you can and should update withholding forms as appropriate. If you have a major life event (such as getting married, having a child, moving, etc.), you’ll want to update your W-4 form to reflect these changes. The goal is to reduce the potential for a tax bill and have a tax refund at zero or close to it.
