Supercharge your Coda rituals with Relay’s automations

How to save time and build more sustainable processes with Relay + Coda.

The best teams are defined by how well they execute their most important repeated processes and rituals. Whether you’re a user research team running user studies, a sales team managing demos, or a customer service team onboarding new customers, every team has rituals at the heart of their business. The challenge is when these processes aren’t done correctly, your team may only get 10% of the value from them, which is why it’s critical to develop the right structure to execute these rituals effectively and efficiently. Our founding team started Relay.app because, in our roles leading product, design, and engineering teams, we found we were always falling short when executing our key processes. There were so many tools required to get work done that we were struggling to connect them and keep track of everything that needed to happen. We built Relay to solve this problem by helping teams automate more work across applications with one-click AI assistance, human-in-the-loop collaboration, and a multiplayer experience.

Without Coda and Relay, keeping key processes on track is a huge effort.

Since Coda plays such a central role for so many teams, we saw a big opportunity to help Coda customers create workflows that keep their teams on track across a range of different tools. Without Coda and Relay, information lives in disparate sources and steps of processes are scattered across applications. Together, Coda can serve as the source of all your important work, while Relay automates actions and keeps you on track to execute key processes! For example, like most product teams, we’re constantly doing user studies to inform our product roadmap. We continuously send out invitations to our users a week after they’ve signed up for our product, which helps us generate a steady stream of user studies. We keep track of all of our upcoming and past user studies using a table in Coda. This has been incredibly helpful because we have all of the information in one place, but our team isn’t always the best at keeping the table up to date with participant details and notes, and sometimes individual team members forget to follow up with the broader team and with participants.

Save time by automatically adding data to a Coda table using Relay.

To solve these challenges, we created a Relay playbook that runs automatically and syncs with our Coda table. When a user study is scheduled (using Calendly or another scheduling tool), the playbook automatically triggers and a row is added to the Coda table with all of the participant information. This keeps our Coda table up to date with all of the details, without any manual work on our side!
Additionally, Relay informs the team via Slack that a new user study has been scheduled and that the details can be found in Coda. Then, after the interview, Relay drafts a thank you note to the participant using a template and nudges the interviewer to review it and add any details before sending. With Relay, the Coda doc is kept up to date, and all of our user studies are running smoothly! As you can see here, Relay automations are super helpful when you want a trigger in a separate application to then take action in Coda. Plus, they come in handy when you want to have a human in the loop for automations that need an extra double-check.

Automate more work than ever with Relay and Coda.

Tracking user studies is just one example of how you can automate a lot more of your Coda workflows using Relay, but the possibilities are endless! Whatever you use Coda for, Relay can help take action in Coda directly, or Relay can trigger actions across a range of your apps based on what’s happening in Coda. Now back to automating!
