📜 Some history: The Capitoline Museums (Musei Capitolini) are found in Piazza del Campidoglio. The museums are owned and administered by the Municipality of Rome. The museum were the result of the donation of a collection of valuable bronzes by Pope Sixtus IV in 1471 to the citizens of Rome, making them the oldest museums in the world. The museums are made up by two imposing buildings located on the Piazza del Campidoglio: the Palazzo dei Conservatori and the Palazzo Nuovo. Both mansions are linked by the Galleria Lapidaria, a tunnel that takes you under Piazza del Campidoglio without having to leave the museums.

Palazzo Massimo alle Terme

📜 Some history: The Palazzo Massimo is ancient museum where you will find sculptures, paints and mosaics, I personally loved it when I visited few years ago. You will dive into 2,000 year old history which will make you experience the Roman Empire and the Greek influences. The Palazzo Massimo is also called Palazzo Massimo alle Terme due to its close proximity to the Baths of Diocletain. The villa is a superb Neo-Renaissance style palace, erected between 1883 and 1887. It was used as a Jesuit college until 1960 and in 1981 it was transformed into part of the National Roman Museum.
The National Roman Museum is located in four different buildings; the Baths of Diocletain, the Palazzo Altemps, the Crypta Balbi and lastly, the Palazzo Massimo. This last palace features one of the best archaeological and classical art collections in the world.
