The job search can be a demanding and daunting process. On top of finessing each application form, cover letter, and resume, you need to be able to manage and keep track of all the different applications you’ve submitted. Without the right tool, this can all get pretty overwhelming.
Here’s the good news: we’ve set you up with an easy-to-use tool called for keeping your job search organized. This web app enables you to log jobs you’re interested in, see them in a personalized board, and track the progress of each application—from being on your wishlist, right through to receiving an offer. Using this online platform will make the process of finding a job easier for both you and your career coach.
At this point, you should have received an email inviting you to Huntr. Once you’ve accepted that invite and created your account, you can start adding and tracking job applications.
Let’s take a quick look at the main features you’ll want to use:
Huntr Chrome Extension: While browsing for jobs on sites like LinkedIn or Indeed, the can save job listings and extract information from job postings with as little as one click.
Job Board: Organized like a Kanban board, this helps you visualize the state of your job search and see how many applications, interviews, or offers you’ve received in one simple view.
Job Portal: Besides helping you track your job search, Huntr also features a place for the staff at Designlab to share entry-level job opportunities with you. We update this weekly!
Now that you know what to look for, let’s dig into how to use these three features.

Adding Job Opportunities

There are two ways to add jobs that interest you to your Job Board: the Huntr Chrome Extension and manually adding them. The far easier method is using the Chrome extension.

Huntr Chrome Extension

If you use Chrome, you can you find on different job boards and company websites.

Once installed, you can begin searching on sites like , , or , and adding job opportunities to your Huntr board. Below, we’ve added a job opening at Home Depot that was posted on Indeed to the wishlist section of our board.

Even though Huntr’s Chrome extension works on many sites, there will be cases where automatic job extraction won't work. For these sites, click on the Huntr extension icon on the Chrome toolbar to display the Save Job form, then highlight the information from the page. As you highlight the information, Huntr will automatically fill in the fields, so you don't have to spend time copying and pasting the information into the form.

Manually Adding Job Opportunities

If you don’t use Chrome or if, for some reason, the extension doesn’t work, you can easily add jobs manually to your board. First, click on the purple + Create button in the top right corner of your board. Then, select Job.

From here, you’ll want to add the company name and job title, select where in your board you’d like this job saved, and click Save Job. After the job has been created, you'll be able to save more details about the opportunity.

Using Your Job Board

Your Job Board is the primary tool you’ll want to use for staying organized and accountable during your job search. This interface is designed in the fashion of a Kanban board. A Kanban board is an agile project management tool designed to help you visualize work using cards and columns. Huntr has repurposed this concept for job seekers' personal use.

The columns are labeled with the stages most job application processes will follow. Many of these stages are self-explanatory, but here is what they all mean just in case:
Wishlist: job opportunities you’ve saved, but haven’t applied to yet
Applied: jobs that you’ve submitted an application for
Networking: to improve your chances of landing the job, you’ve connected with hiring managers through LinkedIn or have reached out to others at the company you’ve applied to for an informational meeting or screening call
Screening Call: you’ve partaken in a brief job interview to determine whether you're a qualified applicant
Interview 1 and Interview 2: you’ve been invited and have participated in formal interviews with the hiring manager and future collaborators
Follow-Up: an email was sent to the hiring manager and interviewers thanking them and inquiring about next steps
Offer Received: a moment for celebration, you got a formal job offer in writing!
Offer Accepted: you’ve accepted a job offer
Archive: where to save info about jobs you applied for, but didn’t progress through the interview process

Every job opportunity you save is submitted to this board as a card. It's up to you to move it to the next stage once you’ve applied, interviewed, etc. To move a card to a new stage, just click and drag it onto the desired column. Alternatively, you can click into each card, hover over the Move button in the top right, and select the column you want to send the job to. While on the job's detail modal, you can review the compiled job information, log activities, and take notes.

Logging activities for each job helps you track what needs to be done, like submitting an application or preparing for an interview. You might also consider using the documents feature to aid in your organization of the many custom cover letters and resumes you’ll be creating.

Beyond the board itself, there are a few features at the top that might come in handy. Many users have found the Map helpful for seeing where companies they are applying to are located. You can gain further insight into your job hunt by viewing key statistics in Metrics. The other features here like Activities, Contacts, and Documents compile all the information that is located within the job cards.
