Lights & automation

There are no voice control/listening devices in the house.
There are no active cameras in the house.
There is no presence detection in the house.
As a result, please remember to manually trigger turning off all lights before leaving the house!

Lights

No lights are turned on without a human-initiated action, only off.
💡The main dimmer switch in the office and bedroom can be turned on/off by tapping the screen (glass display) instead of pressing +/- (takes a moment to gradually brighten/dim lights until on/off)

The secondary lights in the office (smaller ceiling fixture) and bedroom (standing lamp) are sync’d with the main dimmer switches via automation when turning on/off. They can be a bit finicky if toggled on/off rapidly, so if they didn’t do what you wanted, just cycle the main switch once more
There is a taped light switch near the kitchen entrance — this sends power to the smaller living room ceiling fixture, ❌ don’t use it as an on/off!
🌇 The office lights are automated around “daytime vibes” (brighter, whiter) and “evening vibes” (yellow).
The “daylight white” upward-facing LED (office, shelftop) is connected via smart plug. It will turn off automatically around sunset
The secondary ceiling fixture will be white during the daytime, and yellow after sunset
There are a variety of battery powered nightlights: on the bedroom stairs, in the bathroom, in the hallway.
The are set to AUTO (dark + motion sensing), primarily to light your way up/down the bed and to the bathroom in the dark
If any nightlight stops working or shows a blinking red LED indicator (low battery), you can plug in to any USB-C charging cable in the bedroom (we use the one under the window for this).
If you find these lights bother you (especially when Tobi has zoomies at night) you can toggle them to the off position or place them deep in a shelf (we personally prefer occasional lights to stumbling in the dark!)
There is no smart hookup for the kitchen lights — use the switch above Tobi cabinet that isn’t taped (kitchen ceiling), and the switch on the cabinet near the kitchen sink (under-cabinet)
There is no smart hookup for the LED strip in the office near the kitchen — use the switch next to the dimmer near the hallway
There is no smart hookup for the entryway lights — use the switch/dimmer next to the front door
There is no smart hookup for the underbed lights — use the switch on the bedpost near standing lamp
There is no smart hookup for bathroom lights — use the switches/dimmer inside the bathroom

Other devices

Bedroom AC:
Can be controlled via Ghome, but has a remote
The remote’s range doesn’t reach from the far opposite corner, you have to be in the ~middle of the room
Bedroom blinds:
Partially open at 0830, fully open by 1030 (later on Sat/Sun)
Partially closed just before sunset, fully closed just after sunset
Use the tall white remote to manually raise or lower all the way, center button to stop it where it is
Zojirushi water boiler:
connected via smart plug which needs to be manually turned on (see below)
automatically turns off at 1AM

Smart plugs

Things connected with a smart plug (office shelftop light, water boiler, bedroom standing lamp) can be turned on/off by pressing the power switch directly on them.
