This section provides guidance on building mentorship capacity in the federal government, including a guide for setting up an official mentorship program.

TOP RECOMMENDATION:

(U.S. Patent and Trademark Office) A detailed, step-by-step guide to creating a formal mentoring program with information for organizers, mentors, and mentees.

Mentorship Resources

(Office of Personnel Management) A collection of resources related to mentoring, including flash mentoring and speed mentoring, as well as examples of specific mentoring programs implemented by various agencies. Useful for managers.
(Office of Personnel Management) A tool that assists agencies in creating a business case for mentoring by outlining critical steps in developing and implementing a formal mentoring program. Useful for managers.

GAP ANALYSIS:

We found a few resources for managers, targeted at standing up a mentorship program and being an effective manager-mentor. However, we could not find any resources for mentees to help them get the most out of their mentorship experience. We also could not find resources that help employees identify and reach out to potential mentors outside of a formal agency program.
