and the University of California, San Diego’s guide offer comprehensive explanations of formal government language. However, we could not find a similar guide to informal lingo used in government that would be helpful for new employees to know (i.e., FYSA).

Communications

We found myriad resources on crafting effective external communications, including the and the . However, we did not find resources that help new government employers approach internal communications, such as email correspondences.
We also did not find any general communications resources at the federal level that explain how to write an effective press release or approach conversations with the media. This would be helpful to any new staff that are on-boarding.
We also found a few , but these appear to be live courses that are offered periodically. We were unable to find resources that help government employees improve their writing skills on their own time.

Ethics

We struggled to find many plain-language resources on the ethical rules for government employees. The best we found was the . However, we believe more resources may exist at other agencies that are simply not publicly accessible. We could not find any resources on government ethics that address specific considerations for technologists.
