Linear Flight Route Planning 101

Convert Line on Pilot 2 Map to Flight Band:

Tap line on map and select linear flight route
Convert to flight band

Linear Flight Single Route:

Useful if you are just doing one pass of data collection down the line.

After flight line is generated select single route

Can adjust extension length (distance you want coverage of on both sides of the line) before you select the check mark, and the altitude will be automatically set in the next step.
**Your extension length will limit your altitude setting to a minimum altitude to achieve it.

Select Aircraft Type & Data Collection Requirement (Wide + IR)

Specific Settings I changed from default were:
Altitude Mode: If there is terrain change use AGL (above ground level) otherwise use ALT (relative to takeoff point)
Route Altitude: Verify you are ok with flight altitude, if you can’t go any lower with the altitude that is because of your extension length set previously.
Elevation Optimization: Off (don’t need to optimize altitude acccuracy of our data collection)
Safe Takeoff Altitude: This is the minimum height the drone will go to before proceeding to the start point.
Speed: Verify it is the fastest it can be, will only let you set speed camera can handle.

Altitude Mode:

Select DSM File or download from internet. Can also import your own dsm file but is more complicated to make and utilize your own.

^Can also use real time terrain follow option if conditions are ok and flying at a lower altitude (650 feet or below)

If you want to readjust settings for the extension length which influences your minimum altitude setting click on it to adjust again:

Multiple Flight Lines:

If you need to fly multiple flight lines to complete the mission width requirements will select the zig zag flight route option instead or single route:

Can adjust left or right coverage amount to desired coverage, leave linked if you want the same distance on each side. The more extension/coverage length the more flight lines can be added.

Cutting distance determines the length of each flight section.

After flight parameters were set, selected check mark and adjusted below items per above:

Example Video For Zig Zag Mission Plan:

0:06 Select line and convert to linear mission
0:12 Adjust Extension Length and Cutting Distance for points.
1:01 Setup Flight Parameters
1:18 Already had downloaded dsm from internet

Additional Note for ZigZag Linear Flight Planning:
image.png
If you see an warning when you need to either adjust the extension length this means you need to adjust your parameters or line. In this case zoomed in and adjusted point 2. Honestly should have just smoothed the line out more by downsampling the line when planning out the flight line and importing it through flight hub 2.

^Before and after adjusting point 2.
May need to toggle length up and down to see what the next issue point is based on current settings.
