After a wildfire, drones play a crucial role in several post-fire assessment and recovery activities. Drones equipped with thermal imaging sensors can create detailed maps of the burned areas, identifying hotspots that may still pose a fire risk. This information is vital for firefighters and emergency responders to ensure that all active fires have been fully extinguished and avoid a rekindle. Often times the focus can be on the perimeter but can be size dependent.
This guide mainly focuses on collection of data around the perimeter so it can be run through software and hotspots can be flagged but is also applicable to mapping the entire area.
This guide is built off of experience with DJI Drones/Software but can be applied to various software and UAS operations.
