99% Forget This Crucial Step

Imagine you’re going to an expensive restaurant...

You sit down at your table, order your food, and wait.

(And wait… And wait… And wait…)

Over an hour later, your food finally, arrives, and it isn’t even what you ordered. Fed up, you decide to eat it anyway, only to get food poisoning the next day.

How likely are you to recommend that restaurant to a friend?

This is the basis of word-of-mouth marketing: when people buy your stuff, they tell others about it, especially if it’s really good (or really bad, which has the opposite effect).

And “buy” doesn’t have to mean paying with money - if a member invests time and effort into joining your community, and find it extremely valuable, they’re far more likely to tell their friends.

Which brings us to the commonly overlooked step of getting more members: make your group so valuable that people can’t help but tell their friends.

In the beginning, the easiest way to do this is to lead by example.

Ask yourself: how would your ideal community member act? Then, become that person.

Then, when others start to engage, positively reinforce them by replying to their comments and starting interesting discussions.

Over time, this becomes self-sustaining, and you don’t manually have to generate all the discussion yourself. But for now, take full responsibility for upping the activity in your community and making it as valuable as possible.

Keep creating new pieces of content, and sharing them with your audience. Keep asking questions, and dedicate yourself to understanding your avatar. Do whatever it takes to get more members in the door (and keep them interested enough to stay for the long haul).

The more you practice this, the better you’ll get. Before long, you’ll be ready to move on to Part 3, where the real money is made…
