What to do if your email doesn't get any responses
Some things to note...
A non-response is not necessarily a no
Coaches are salesmen, and some coaches are bad salesmen
I’ve had coaches not respond to emails and then randomly show up at games
Manage expectations — if you email 20 schools, you may only get 1 to 5 responses anyway.
First thing to check
Need
Are the school that you’re emailing in NEED of your position?
How desperate are they?
Second thing to check
Skill level
Are the schools you’re emailing in your talent range?
You may need to adjust your sights...are you aiming too high?
Have you tried emailing schools at every level?
Important: Notice that when we’re not getting the responses we want, we don’t jump immediately to tweaking the email...we start with WHO we’re emailing before touching the email or video.
Third thing to check
Email
Is there anything in your email that could disqualify you right form the beginning when a coach reads your emaIl?
Low SAT score
Statistic
Only keep your marketable traits in the first conversation. Eventually, the coach will find your faults, but let him find them on his own.
Is your email short? 45 seconds or less to read (the shorter the better)
Fourth thing to check
Video
Does the video show your best skills?
Is the video blurry?
Can the coach easily evaluate you based on the video?
Does it look manipulated or does it look authentic?
If you haven’t reached out to Junior Colleges, I highly recommend doing so.
JC gets a bad reputation, but it’s an AWESOME avenue for a lot of players
Expanded rosters
Cheaper
Development
Lower academic requirements
You can always transfer later
I loved my JUCO experience
Play the long game. Your recruiting process can change overnight, but this usually happens after weeks or months of hard work.
Line up the dominoes, put yourself in the best position to succeed, build leverage, be patient, then watch them all fall over beautifully at once.
Stay persistent and consistent.
“Temporary defeat does not mean permanent failure.”
