The secret sauce to emails, advice on statistics, and what you should use for a subject line

Indisputable facts

You are not allowed to write an opinion in an email
Everything you put in the email must be an indisputable fact
This means there cannot be a single thing in your email that a coach can disprove or disagree with
No self-evaluations or descriptions of you as a player (and how great you are)
The purpose of the email is simple: get the coach to watch the video

Do I put statistics in my email?

You might think, “Stats are indisputable facts. I’ll just load my email with stats.”
Stats are tricky because they’re not as indisputable as you think.
Let’s say a player has a batting average of .373 in a season...HE MUST BE REALLY GOOD!
The issue is that there’s a difference between hitting .373 in South Dakota High School baseball and Southern California baseball (one is much more competitive than the other)
In general, I tell players to stay away from stats.
Often, players include stats that they think are helping them that are actually disqualifying them from certain programs.
Better to leave the stats out of it and simply let the coach decide by watching your video
Only include stats if they are so absurdly good that it would be absurd to leave it out of the email. If you have to ask yourself if a certain stat is good enough, then it likely isn’t.
We only want to keep our most marketable traits (our best traits) in the first few conversations
Coaches are going to find out about our faults (every player has them), but we want to show our upside before the coach gets fixated on our downside.

What should I use for my subject line?

Keep it simple
The goal of your subject line is to get the coach to open the email (nothing more)
Subject line → Content of email → Video → Phone call → Come watch you play
[Name] - [Grad year] [Position]
Why this subject line? ^
If a coach needs your grad year and position, he’s GOING to open your email.
If he doesn’t, you weren’t going to get a response anyway.
