To show him how you’re progressing throughout the season
To consistently provide value
To make his life easier
To build your own library of videos
Who do you send these emails to?
Coaches you’re already talking to (that have responded to your introductory email)
These emails are not meant to be sent to coaches as “introductory” emails
What do you say in the email?
These emails should be INCREDIBLY short
1 to 3 lines of text - no more
The point of the email is to send video - not dazzle them with words
Example email:
Hey coach _______,
Saw you guys had a great weekend against Vanderbilt. Awesome!
Here’s some new video from last week.
(First name) (Last name)
(cell phone number)
Hit at :17 - (link)
Diving play - (link)
Notice the time stamp ^ . We’ll talk a little bit more about this later, but this is an easy way to make the coach’s life easier.
What video do you send?
New video the coach hasn’t seen before
Usually from the previous week (but doesn’t have to be)
Showcase different skills each week
For example: As a catcher, I’d send hitting and receiving one week, then blocking and throwing the next.
Sometimes, you can send full at-bats if you have a particularly good at-bat (with good takes). The key here will be adding time stamps so the coach doesn’t have to watch the full video to find the hit if he just wants to see the swing.
Ex. Hitting Game Video - (link) (hit at 1 minute and 10 seconds)
How often do you send video?
Freshman in HS: Once a month
Sophomore in HS: Once a month
Junior & Senior in HS: Once a week
Junior college player: Once a week
When you’re sending video every week, send it at the same time on the same day
My recommended time: Monday mornings at 8am PST
Another secret: take every 4th week off from sending video
Week 1 - Send video
Week 2 - Send video
Week 3 -Send video
Week 4 -Don’t send an email
Week 5 -Send video
etc.
Give yourself (and the coach) a break
Give him a chance to “miss you”
I had coaches ask if I was still uncommitted, or ask where the new video for the week was
Coaches get conditioned if you’re ruthlessly consistent
Always prep video for the off week just in case a coach asks for new video
“Hey coach, I’m still uncommitted. Here’s the new video you asked for.”
What should I expect in response to these emails?
Thanks, keep in touch.
No response
Let’s hop on a call.
Just because you don’t get a response from a coach, whether you sent an email that week or not, doesn’t mean it’s not working.
Stay consistent, and trust the process.
