There are recruiting regulations that limit the amount of contact that coaches can have with freshmen and sophomores. However, you see freshmen and sophomores committing to schools all the time. This is a grey area, and one that you should be aware of.
If you’re younger, add this section to your email (this should be inserted right after you ask if the coach has a “need for (grad year) (position)” :
I know you’re not allowed to contact me yet due to my age, but I wanted to introduce myself, and let you know that I’ll be emailing you periodically with updates on my developmental progress. I don’t expect a response to these emails. They are simply for your information.
This shows the coach that you’re interested in his school, you’re aware of the regulations, and most importantly...that you know how to play the recruiting game!
