6 myths in the recruiting process

You need your high school or travel coach’s connections to succeed.
You can gain most, if not all, of the attention on your own
Even down the home stretch, your high school or travel coach isn’t going to play a pivotal role
This is YOUR process — take it into your own hands.
You should wait for coaches to reach out to you first.
For most players, you’ll be waiting a long time.
Don’t be afraid to make the first initiation — this is how the process works
Even if you already have interest from a few schools, email more. You can never have too many schools interested.
There’s no such thing as too little or too much communication.
There definitely is.
Too much = overwhelming
Too little =missing out on opportunities
We need to find the sweet spot
You have to play really well at showcases to “get noticed”
This is not necessarily true
Playing well helps — yes.
But you can still make an impression without dominating. Take some pressure off of yourself — you don’t need to be perfect at showcases.
Athleticism, composure, raw skills, technical skills, comparison to other players, etc. all play a role in evaluation.
You have to play varsity your freshman year of high school
No, you don’t.
I didn’t.
Some players are late bloomers
It’s not about where you start — it’s about where you finish
Junior college is not an option worth considering
You SHOULD consider it.
Cheaper
Bigger rosters
Can transfer to a another school later
Easier academic standards if your grades aren’t good
Awesome people
Incredibly fun
