FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Day of Online Global Action in Solidarity with DRC on 17 May 2024: Break the Silence Free Congo
Location/Online Platform
Fridays For Future Africa, in partnership with FFF DRC, invites the global community to stand in solidarity with the victims of conflict and the climate crisis by participating in an online strike.
A toolkit containing background information and sample tweets has been provided. This toolkit serves as a resource to discover the FFF activists in DRC, highlighting their hard work and aspirations.
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) faces immense challenges from the climate crisis to conflict. As a movement committed to transitioning away from fossil fuels, Fridays For Future Africa emphasizes the importance of ethical sourcing of raw materials and the respect for human rights. The conflict in Congo raises ethical concerns, particularly as over 6 million people are currently displaced.
Fridays For Future Africa calls upon the United Nations (UN), the African Union (AU), and the European Union (EU) to assist DRC by making humanitarian aid available, creating safe passages for victims, ending the conflict, and helping to preserve the Congo rainforest. Additionally, Africa needs a fossil fuel non-proliferation treaty as part of the solution.
Join us in making a difference. Together, we can break the silence and free Congo.
Fridays For Future Africa is also launching a fundraiser in partnership with Friends of Congo, which will directly benefit frontline communities affected by the climate crisis. We urge you to please help make a difference.
