Dec 9 - Alarm Logic

info

In heavy-alarm journeys, where alarms may occur in rapid succession or overlap, it’s crucial to decide how alarms should behave and interact without being overwhelming.

Typical Journey

Alarms trigger in sequence with significant time and distance between them.

Users can easily identify and dismiss each alarm without confusion.
Ideal for low-alarm density journeys.

Option 1 - Overlapping Alarms

The ALX alarm starts while the Asset alarm is still active. Shortly after, the LoA alarm begins while ALX is still alarming.

Potential Issue: Users might be confused about which alarm they are dismissing—especially when “touch to dismiss” notif appears.
✔️ Potential Solution: Dynamic sound management
Reduce volume of lower-priority alarms when a higher-priority one goes off.

(Recommended) Option 2 - Switching Alarms

Alarms are queued instead of overlapping, ensuring one sound plays at a time.
The asset alarm completes and/or ALX/LoA alarm needs to be dismissed for the next alarm to sound.
Reduces confusion during alarm dismissals.

❌ Potential Issue: May delay next alarms if current is not dismissed fast enough.
✔️ Potential Solution: Higher-priority alarms (ALX or LoA) override current or queued lower-priority alarm.
