A Culture of Safety

At Foothills Unitarian Church we are committed to creating a Culture of Safety that is informed by our values and supported by our practices of safety and inclusion.
In our groups for all ages we strive to create spaces of deep welcome and belonging.
In our groups for Children & Youth we are not trying to re-create a school environment.
Instead, our goal is to create spaces of safety, trust and inclusion where all children and youth can feel supported and known in their full identity. To support this we -
Understand that all behavior is communication. Our leaders for children seek to understand & connect before correcting.
We model and practice active listening. We welcome questions and a diversity of opinions and ideas.
We create that reflect what the children and youth in each small groups need to feel safe and included.
We do not tolerate violent or bullying language or behavior in our groups for children and youth.
Parents are asked to read and agree to our when they register their children for our programs.
Participants in High School Youth Group are asked to complete our when they register for our Youth Group.
All volunteers complete a so that they have a clear understanding of their role and responsibilities.
Our Volunteer Screening Process for leaders working with children youth and vulnerable adults includes the following -
