1. Product Research Overview

3. Examples of Competitor Research

Let’s look at some examples of competitive analyses.

1. Competitive Landscape & Positioning

Competitive landscapes tend to be visual and make it easy to see the gaps between your product and the industry. Typically, you want to select two most important criteria that the industry competes on and then compare across them.

Example 1: Matrix

Example 2: Venn Diagram

Example 3: Table

Example 4: Category Blocks

2. UI / UX Teardown

Compare a particular flow (registration, onboarding, etc.) across multiple products
Typically step-by-step screenshots with callouts

Example Screens: Apple Music Signup Flow
Note: Some of the text in the callout boxes in the example screenshots is not that relevant. Normally, the text bubbles are for observations on either UX, messaging, or anything notable about the experience.

Example Screens: Dropbox Signup Flow
In your research, you would want to walk through every single step in the flow and make observations.
