It all kicked off... [Milburn Room]

Those protesting the ballot wished to enter the Moot Hall where the ballot was taking place, the soldiers held their ground.
One soldier Private David Greenock was attacked by a protestor trying to wrestle the gun from his control. In the struggle Greenock was shot dead.
A further attack on Ensign Joseph Hart saw him shot dead with a pistol.
All the pent up energy, anxiety and anger from the past four hours erupted and chaos began.
It is now that the militia fired at the crowd - it is unclear who gave the order and they did not wait for the Riot Act words to reach every person in the crowd. They were desperate not to lose control of the crowd.
An eye witness claimed the militia were firing for about 10 minutes.
In expert hands the Brown Bess rifles were capable of being loaded and fired three times a minute. Did the soldiers each fire 30 rounds at a fleeing crowd of men, women and children?
The officers ran up and down their lines commanding a ceasefire, however it was not immediate. The soldiers had been standing about for hours, maybe they saw their two comrades killed and were fearful with 5000 angry locals not wishing to join their ranks.
When the shooting started the crowd ran for the exits and it was said only the dead and wounded remained when the shooting stopped and the gunpowder smoke cleared.
