A Basic Flow Diagram
Here we see a basic workflow [source on ] Every rectangle represents a status - or state, or stage - of an evolving process.
There is usually one default transition, indicated with the black arrowed connector, and zero or many alternative transitions, displayed with the dashed red connector.
Sometimes it’s also useful to represent areas or phases of the workflow so that it’s easier to show relevant categories.
There should also be a status owner (i.e. who is responsible for moving from one status to another) along with other relevant stakeholders, here indicated with colored circles
