Our design and assembly have been shipped off to the manufacturing plant to begin production! Let’s learn a little more about how products are made at scale.

Our task is to determine how the Front Cover of the Switch Joy-Con is manufactured for the millions of kids (and adults!) that have one.

Here’s what the Front Cover of an actual Switch Joy-Con looks like:

The manufacturing method used for something will depend on what material that “something” is made out of.

You wouldn’t use a cheese grater to peel an apple right? That’s because cheese doesn’t have the same properties as an apple peel. Cheese is softer, and the apple peel should come off in big pieces rather than shreds. We need to keep the desired outcome in mind when choosing a manufacturing method!

Since different materials require different manufacturing methods because they have different properties, we are going to focus only on methods relevant to what the Front Cover was made out of - plastic!
