The WANA / MENA region that is among the most affected areas in the world when it comes to the effects of climate change. Despite the ethnic and cultural diversity of Western Asia, most indigenous groups in the region are largely unseen and unheard. Dispossessed of their lands, the rights of indigenous peoples are not recognized by their governments. Indigenous peoples are subject to government oppression, marginalization, and sometimes outright persecution. Colonization and resource exploitation are at the root of the climate crisis, which is aggravating other environmental issues in the region.
