What we’ve learned:
For most US households, paying monthly household bills has never been harder. The problem we set out to tackle is even bigger than we thought.
The most scalable and sustainable solution is not another consumer fintech app, but rather a solution for the billers to reduce churn and maximize LTV.
While retention is mission critical, most mid-market recurring billers and subscription services are flying blind because they lack the basic insights and capabilities to combat churn before it happens.
What we did:
As a result of aggressive testing and learning over the last year, we identified a bigger and more scalable opportunity to solve the consumer problem by solving it for the biller in the form of reducing customer churn.
We’ve evolved Modern from a consumer mobile app (B2C) → embedded retention platform (B2B2C) → retention intelligence platform (B2B).
Where we are today:
Modern is a retention intelligence and workflow automation platform that delivers real-time, actionable intelligence to better predict churn, identify high-risk segments, and supercharge the existing customer workflows — all with zero engineering.

We’ve refined our strategy and ideal customer profile:
Sector: Mid-market (generally between 20K to 1M MAUs)
Industries: Recurring billers (mobile, cable/tv), Subscription services (health & wellness, eLearning)
Buyer: Marketing or finance teams responsible for revenue, customer engagement
Strong, continued interest and traction with several pilot programs set to launch in the new year
