Class leadership

Each student will be responsible for leading 1-2 hours of the weekly seminar (roughly half the class).
Pick a topic of particular interest on the schedule or propose an alternate that fits in the overall framework. Here are some possibilities:
University sports that are not varsity/intercollegiate (i.e. clubs and intramurals). What is their role on campus? How do they contribute to an institution’s mission or strategy?
Adaptive sport/para sport: at a handful of universities, sports for people with physical disabilities are becoming more visible/mainstream. What are the opportunities and challenges these athletes face?
How athletes transition from college to post-athletic careers and lives
Mental health issues in sports, particularly coming out of the pandemic
Community college sports
Marketing and ticketing innovations (Missouri is allowing students to sell their tickets and get a 20% commission, for example)
Challenges and opportunities for international athletes
Revenue sports outside football/men’s basketball: How do they operate and what makes good ones good?
Assign additional readings as appropriate.
Design an instructional activity (lecture, class discussion, guest speaker, alternative format) to bring greater understanding to the topic.
Execute on the schedule.
I will ask for your top three choices of weeks by Wednesday, August 24.
