Elena's initial feedback

Elena’s thoughts upon reviewing students’ first drafts:

I enjoyed reading your translations - thanks for all timely submissions! A few things to help you reflect more before our class:
Imagine the characters are children. They seem to use the language in ways a child would. They also seem to behave as if they know each other even if they don’t (again, as a child would). How would they address each other? How can we capture that simplicity in their expression? How does a child say “I want my hat back” in Macedonian? Perhaps you can get a child to role play a similar situation to the one in the book to elicit a more ‘natural’ translation?
How do we say “Yes please” and “Thank you anyway” as a matter of course in Macedonian? Perhaps try the dialectal approach?
