It’s not uncommon for individuals to go uncredited for projects, especially when the work is internal or for projects like advertisements that typically do not list individual contributors. A verification of experience can support applications for teaching roles by attesting to your work history or serve as evidence for projects you contributed to but not officially credited.
What is Experience Verification
Verification of experience means confirmation of the applicant's qualifying experience, in writing, signed by the applicant's past or present employer(s) on company letterhead that attests to and or includes all of the following:
Employer's Information: Name, address, and telephone number.
Working Relationship: The relationship of the person signing the verification to the applicant.
Employment Dates: Beginning and ending dates of employment.
Description of Duties: A complete and detailed description of the applicant’s duties during their employment.
Employment Status: A statement indicating whether the employment was full-time or part-time. If part-time, include an accounting of the total number of hours the applicant worked.
Self-Employment or Avocational Experience: [See Reference]
Considerations
Request Early: If you know you’re leaving a company, it’s crucial to request a verification of experience as early as possible, either before your departure or shortly after. Delaying the request can make it harder to obtain, as former colleagues may be less responsive or willing to assist once you’ve left. After leaving, you may need to navigate corporate processes, such as contacting HR, which can be time-consuming or unresponsive. Planning ahead can help mitigate these challenges.
