Downside of this approach: The named reference appears in a non-formatted way, thus not making it clearly visible to a reader that this word contains hoverable elements.

It would be great to use Buttons in the Canvas Cell. I’ve added a demo row to the table Dictionary. Within the Canvas Cell it works just as it should. It also appears upon hover, try it out below:

But: When you try to click on it, you’re taken into the named formula, instead of executing the button’s action.
Bear in mind that clicking on buttons using the Object-Formula directly, this does work (see example here:
The issue of a button not carrying out the assigned action, but rather opening into its formula editor, is solely visible for the doc maker. That way, a reader of this doc might not have been able to replicate Q2 anyway. So, all’s well that end’s well 😉
