So, you’ve worked through all of these pages, it all seems great, but in a way also like simply Too.Much.Effort. Who has the time to maintain this for every new doc, right?
Well, while I was still busy getting lost in stringing together ever more object-Formulas, the wonderful community Champions Max Xyzor and Bill French saw a much more elegant way to do it. And that way are Canvas cells.
Simply create one table called eg “Dictionary”, that will host all of your pop-up content.
Each row has
a text column, containing the search term (or keyword, whatever you want to call it)
a Canvas Column titled “Tool-Tip Content”
a formula column, containing the object-formula, in which you merge together the two columns “Search Term” and “Tool-Tip Content”
And now, without you having to remember a myriad of different sources to merge your objects from, simply go through each keyword in this dictionary table. For each keyword, fill the Canvas cell to your liking (ie embed You-Tube videos, reference rows, write text, etc).
Then, either on the Canvas or in Modal view (following the steps in this tutorial accordingly) create a named formula, which can now contain a much simply content, ie:
And now, wherever you wish to bring up this hover, simply reference the named formula (no need to re-type the formula).
Here’s what it looks like:
