Tips & Guidelines

Social Media Brand Considerations

As a chapter of the official IJM organization, it is important to make your messaging — visual and written —consistent. Refer and adhere to the to align with IJM’s official brand guidelines.

Typography

Fonts should be consistent among emails and social media posts. For example, if using an email service like Mailchimp, make sure the emails sent week to week are consistent in appearance and layout.
Use the same 1-2 fonts for your Instagram stories to make them consistent.

Visual Balance & Social Media Templates

We want to look professional and unified (and a little fun!). Some tips for doing that:
Repost any @ijm content
Use provided and any IJM provided templates.
Canva and Adobe Photoshop or Spark have templates that can be very helpful for social media posts. However, be mindful of using loud templates, excessive graphics or clip art, etc.
Balancing between photos (your campus, chapter officers, IJM stock photos, etc) and graphics will help with the visual appeal of your social media accounts.

Logo

The IJM logo should not be remade in a different color, nor should it have an additional logo with it (e.g. your school’s logo attached to the IJM logo).
Send to students@ijm.org for approval/feedback.
School mascots can be used, but do not explicitly use your school’s official logo to brand your chapter, as most schools have rules around their logo usage.

Content Ideas

Pay attention to holidays and important dates regarding human trafficking, and have content to post on those days. Examples:
August: World Humanitarian Day
October: International Day of the Girl Child (United Nations)
November: World Children’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Giving Tuesday
December: International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, Human Rights Day, Christmas Eve
Use hashtags, especially when it has to do with a specific event or movement. For example:
#untilallarefree
#endhumantrafficking
#inittoendit
#endmodernslavery
You can post mini biographies of each of your officers, so your campus and chapter can get to know them. This can be a simple photograph with a bio. ()
You can also introduce chapter members on social media. Baylor IJM has #WhyIJMWednesday where members explain why they are a part of IJM. (.)
Provide statistics and information on trafficking. TCU goes a great job with this with #TruthAboutTrafficking Thursday! (.)

Content Considerations

IJM does not endorse specific political candidates or parties and content on campus chapters should follow that.
During current events, follow how IJM is addressing the issue nationally to create appropriate, accurate content (if wanting to add to the conversation). Feel free to reach out to mobilization@ijm.org with specific questions.
Note: Remember IJM’s values of being professional and bridge-building. Be thoughtful with your posts and stories. Carefully consider what/who you retweet, like, and follow. Students, faculty, and administration see your activity and will see it as a reflection of IJM.

Consent Procedure

Do you want to share your chapter’s pictures with IJM? For IJM to share pictures through our national account, you need written consent from people in the pictures.
Use the form below and send it along with your photos whenever the photos clearly features individuals:

Usually, if a photo does not focus/feature individuals, general crowd photos are okay without releases. However, when possible with explicitly hosted group events, consider the following guidelines:
1. Through Registration: Build consent release waivers into the registration process for events that have ticketing or at-event sign-in; this is the preferred method and should always be used when feasible.
2. At Event: Post notices at all entrances for any event (or make a verbal announcement) where attendees are not exclusively ticketed and thus have not given consent in the sign-up process. The notices should inform attendees that photography/videography is occurring, and that if they do not consent, they should sit either in a designated area or should not enter the venue.
Example Notice: “Please be aware that we will have photography and videography throughout this weekend. By entering this area, you grant IJM permission to use your likeness and voice without compensation or your knowledge on any platform at any time. If you would prefer not to be photographed, please sit in [section]. Thank you!”
