Memo Culture

We have a memo-based culture here at Netflix — we write memos for nearly everything because we value transparency and the opportunity for our coworkers to comment, ask questions, or offer support for or challenge a concept. As a Netflix employee you now have access to years & years of information — please make sure you use good judgment and keep things confidential when appropriate. As there is a lot of information to read and digest, remember that these documents will always be there for you to reference and go back to throughout your time at Netflix; we’ve compiled a list of some of the higher profile memos below.

Our executive leadership makes themselves accessible via this open Q&A document where anyone in the company can add questions that will be answered by someone “in the know.” Topics range from strategy bets to cultural occurrences and everything in between.
6
Quick Business Reviews, or QBRs, are offsite meetings for directors, VPs and C-level staff to discuss the state of our business, hear from guest speakers, and participate in breakout group exercises that will ultimately impact the company. This link will lead you to a resource to review previous QBR memos & presentations that have been made available to all of Netflix.

Netflix’s approach to earning member love and growing our subscriber base is known as Content, Choosing & Conversations. This is a 15-page overview memo to help everyone understand these areas and is good context for all curious Netflix employees. Please note, we’ve recently added a 4th C - Commerce.

Netflix is one of the brands in the world. People are endlessly interested in what we’re doing, therefore it’s important to be consistent and that we exercise good judgement in how we talk about our work publicly.
9
We often talk about how Netflix has ‘no rules’ (); but like all companies, we have Practices & Policies that we legally need to abide by. This document is a good reference point for those; no expectation that you read through this with a magnifying glass!
10
Inclusion and Diversity are important parts of our Netflix culture. This document provides helpful clarity, language and resources for what Inclusion means for us here.

As a Netflix employee - no matter which area of the company you work in - you are going to hear from friends, family members, or a random LinkedIn contact about the “hottest new idea for a Netflix show.” 🤣 In most cases it will be easy to shut things down quickly, but in others - e.g. if a script was shared with you or someone is persistent - you’ll need to exercise your good judgement and decide whether you should submit an unsolicited submission notice to our legal team. This document will go through the steps.
