Objectives

After this lesson, students will be able to:
Search for a destination by typing a location name into the search bar
Search for a destination by using dictation to enter a location name into the search bar
Search for a destination by using the Directory
Sort and filter search results in the Directory

Materials

iPhone or Android phone with GoodMaps downloaded from the App Store or the Google Play Store. This may be the student’s personal device, the teacher’s device, or a school-issued device.

Lesson Introduction

To prepare students for this lesson, ask them to make a list of the places to which they frequently travel in the school. This might include specific classrooms, restrooms, offices, the cafeteria, or the gymnasium, to name a few. Then, ask them to consider what is challenging about finding those places and what they typically do to overcome those challenges.

Main Activity: Practice Search, Sort & Filter

Ask students to use the list they made during the lesson introduction to search for each destination using all three search options: 1) search by typing, 2) search by dictation, 3) search by directory.
Then, ask students to practice sorting and filtering search results by type using the Directory found in the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen.

Assessment, Refection & Self Evaluation

When students have completed the practice activities, ask them to share feedback about how easy or difficult it was to use GoodMaps Search, Sort & Filter features.
Then, ask students to complete
