“Bus #20 is vitally important to my daily commute to work (healthcare). The proximity of Bus #20 to my home ensures I arrive to work on time and prevents me from driving 10 miles round trip or taking up valuable parking spaces for patients and other staff. Unlike many other routes that merely go north-south or east-west, #20’s route winds in multiple directions to connect a vast number of neighborhoods. Eliminating Bus #20 will grossly impact my ability to use our transit system and I’ll have to rely on less environmentally friendly alternatives. Thank you for your consideration!” MS
“I am a healthcare provider who uses the 20 bus for the multiple medical centers I practice at in the early hours. Both directly to UW and to connect to the light rail to Kaiser Capitol Hill. Eliminating this route will directly affect my commute especially when considering timing and connections.” PL
“I commute to work daily from Wallingford to downtown Seattle and it helps me get to the light rail station, which is how I get into the city! Traffic and parking is a nightmare downtown so it’s amazing to have something as reliable and consistent as the bus to get to/from work.” SH
“I do not drive and use the #20 bus to get to and from work, school, shopping, recreation, and community activities. If it were eliminated, bus trips would take longer, involve more walking and multiple transfers, and not always be practical or feasible (depending on my health and the weather conditions). Eliminating the #20 bus would have a negative impact on my life and of many of my neighbors. 2024 data show nearly 2000 trips per day on the #20, which is slightly down from 2023 likely due to the service cuts implemented in September 2023. However, ridership on the #20 is similar to or exceeds that of many other bus routes. Please save the #20 bus - so many people in our community rely on it!” KM
“I do not own a car and this bus allows me ease of access to grocery shop, go to work, go to school, and run other necessary errands. Its elimination would make my life, and those with greater barriers than myself’s lives, substantially more challenging.” MC
“I don't have a car and I live in Wallingford right next to the 20, and this bus line helps me get to the clients I pet sit for work in Greenlake, Northgate, and Lake City, as well as get to UW when I need to for events. It also helps me with things like grocery shopping, because I can bus to Northgate or U District without needing to walk long periods with heavy bags. It's a super convenient bus line connecting the northern neighborhoods and I'm happy it exists. I don't even know what the alternative to this busline would be - the link? - but having to walk ~20 minutes in the dark, rain, or walk with heavy groceries or make multiple bus transfers with them is not always feasible, compared to the like ~3 minute walk to and from the bus stop.” DS
“I have no other way of getting to work other than the 20 bus. I am shocked that this busy stretch is being turned into a transit desert, with no reasonable replacement options. I chose my residence specifically because of its proximity to public transit, and now I will be a 25-30 minute walk away from any transit line. I don’t have time to add that much to my commute, nor would I feel safe making a walk like that after dark when night comes early in the winter.” CG
“I take the 20 almost every day. It is invaluable to my life. It offers me access to groceries, to work, to medical professionals, and to the link via Northgate and U District stops. This fall, I will need the 20 to get to work. There are no other bus routes between me and my job. Without the 20, my walk to work will be a little over 30 minutes, with hills. I worry about the winter; in the rain and cold, this is far from ideal. ... For others, losing the 20 wont only be challenging and time-consuming; it will be an enormous burden. I'm thinking of students who rely on this crucial route to access school and resources. I am thinking of the elderly folks and those with mobility issues, for whom multiple transfers (including long, hilly walks) to get to the grocery store or to the library may be physically impossible. The 20 has an immeasurable, positive impact on my community. I hope you will reconsider your plan to retire the 20.” G
“It is my easiest commute to work every day. I commute to UW. It is also the best way to get to Northgate which provides me access to stores I need and my doctors office. Eliminating the 20 would make my commute 20 min longer and force me to take buses that are already extremely full in the mornings and evenings (44 and 62).” AB
“The 20 Bus allows my wife to conveniently commute to her job on Brooklyn Ave from Green Lake without having a car. If the 20 bus goes away, her commute would require too much walking and we may have to buy a second car.” SP
“The 20 is the only route that goes directly to my place of work as well as to my doctor’s office. I cannot afford a car, so without the #20 I will not have any means to get to work or to get the care that I need.” VP
“This bus route connects many transit points (downtown line buses, light rail, greenlake, ect). If this route is eliminated IT WILL CREATE a transit desert for the community. It will cut of access to the city an access to services outside of the community to disabled, senior an non car riders. DO NOT ELIMINATE THE 20! It's how I get to work every day and how I get back home. Without it I would have to walk to my job, and after awhile, just find a new job.”
“I use line 20 daily from Latona Av to UW Roosevelt center. Not having it will impact greatly my ability to commute to work. Please be considerate of it. If anything the city needs to increase buses routes and not restrain them. A city is as good as its public transportation.” AL
